Graduate Schools in Anthropology I’m Considering

Published by Skyler Jackim I’m an undergraduate at The Ohio State University studying anthropology and history. Ever since I was 6 years old my goal has been to work as a curator at a world-class museum.

I’ve started researching graduate programs in anthropology.  My working list is below.  I’ve picked these schools because they have outstanding anthropology departments and some amazing professors.  I’ve also included some short notes about why I’m interested in each one.

  • Arizona State University (strong program, fascinating courses, great reputation)
  • The University of Michigan (outstanding school, strong anthropology department, one of the best library sciences programs in the nation, great college town)
  • UC Berkeley (perhaps one of the best anthropology programs in the country, it feels like every well-known anthropologist I’ve studied in college either was a student here or taught here at one point in their careers)
  • UW Madison (strong program, great small city, close to home (but not too close!)
  • Harvard (great reputation, but I’m not sure I can get in, but my father thinks I need a stretch school!)
  • Yale (same reasons as above)

I’m still doing my research, and will undoubtedly add a few more to this list, but since there is no common app for graduate schools, I’m going to narrow my list down to my top four or five picks and only apply to those.
