About Me

SKYLER JACKIM

Bioarchaeologist | Researcher | Educator

When I was four years old I wanted to be a paleontologist and discover a new type of dinosaur, then I became fascinated with archeology and finding the next King Tut, and while my goals may have changed slightly, my love of studying ancient things has remained constant.

Now, I am a bioarchaeologist with a passion for uncovering the untold stories of past communities through the analysis of human remains, material culture, and history. I earned my Master’s degree in Archaeology from Cornell University, my research focused on bioarchaeological insights into communal health, the role of women in material culture, and public education in history.

Throughout my academic career, I’ve had the privilege of working on a range of fascinating field projects, from excavating Late Bronze Age domestic structures and burials in Israel to assisting with medieval burial excavations in Ireland. My work extends beyond the field, I have conducted in-depth archival research, assisting with skeletal audits, and developing databases for pathologies and demographics of ancient populations.

I believe in making history accessible and engaging to all, and I’m committed to fostering community involvement through public education initiatives. Whether I’m presenting my research on trauma in pre-contact Ohio or teaching a high school seminar on forensic anthropology, I love helping people connect with the past in meaningful ways.

I created this blog to record my journey of following my dreams in the hope that it may inspire others to do so too.
